COMPLAINT
One minor issue I encountered with the Salomon Highpath was that it tended to buck and bounce me around more than some of its counterparts when navigating uneven terrain like wet spring powder or messy spring snow. Despite this, I am hesitant to sacrifice the board’s pop or butterability in order to address this issue. Fortunately, it is not a deal breaker for me. Additionally, the Salomon Highpath handles micro bumpy snow with ease, without transferring all that chatter into your joints like some Salomon boards I’ve tried in the past. I’ve noticed that this could be attributed to the absence of cork or other types of wood in the sidewall, and the use of ABS or Urethane instead. While there may be more to the board’s construction, this is what I’ve observed.
CARVING
I was impressed with the turning ability of the Salomon Highpath and appreciated the nice rebound it provided when laying into a turn. While it may not be the best choice for carving due to its softness, I thoroughly enjoyed maneuvering it on the mountain. The turning experience felt well-balanced and predictable, without any unexpected quirks based on the radius of the turn. However, it didn’t excel in any particular turning scenario as some versatile all-mountain boards can do, leaving it as a good but not exceptional option for a one-board quiver.
STANCE
When the stance width is set to 22 inches and placed all the way back on the board, it allows for a -3 inch setback, which is quite impressive. Although I anticipated the Salomon Highpath to have a more directional and floaty sensation, it was not as much as I had hoped for with this kind of board setback. Instead, it was comparable to other high-quality all-mountain boards when used in powder.
What’s the edge hold like?
Despite the board being soft, the edge performance surpasses expectations. It is not recommended to use it in the most challenging conditions, but it handles better than anticipated, feeling lighter and more compact underfoot compared to most other powder boards I have experienced. Furthermore, it maintains an excellent edge grip.
Is this snowboard stable in turns?
It would be stable and more mellow with easy, slower initiated turns. As you start doing quicker, more nimble turns, it does feel like it’s pushing the limits of this board. Surprisingly with the harsh conditions out here today, it was doing a lot better than I expected.
Can you speak to the dampness of this board?
The board has a moderate flex that doesn’t feel too rigid or too heavy. It’s designed to offer a soft, effortless riding experience that could be enjoyed by any gender. The construction and design of the board make it an easygoing and laid-back option for riding, providing a mellow and relaxed ride.
Cons of salomon highpath snowboard:
Not suitable for advanced or aggressive riders: The board’s soft flex and easygoing nature make it less suitable for those who prefer high-speed, aggressive riding styles or challenging terrain.
Limited terrain versatility: While it performs well on powder and groomed runs, it may not be as suitable for more varied terrain, such as trees or park features.
Limited size range: The board is available in limited sizes, which may not accommodate all riders’ preferences or needs.
Price: The board is on the higher end of the price spectrum, which may be a barrier for budget-conscious riders.
It’s important to note that these are potential cons based on general observations and may not apply to every rider’s specific needs and preferences.
